Just One More Moment
I tap my pen to the beat of time
a metronome swaying with no chime.
It thunders every second it hits
mercy and grace, it does not permit.
We walk on stage to improvise
no chance to practice or reprise.
How long can I hold on to this moment?
Dancing to the tune of love
Or what I thought was love.
I feel your touch and hear your voice
Let’s be drunk amongst the white noise.
I blink and it’s gone,
I turn and it’s dawn.
Unable to rewind or keep in tableau
I can only wish for a second show.
If I say it aloud, would that make it real?
If I saw the ending, would my heart still conceal?
As much as we try and try,
the Past still teases and lingers
Lot’s wife can understand why
the Should’ves, Could’ves, Would’ves.
He’s looking down, watching us
wishing we'd just enjoy the ride.
Made by the Past, creating the Future
now the Present becomes a blooper.
Can I be granted just
one
more
moment?
