A Paper Plane

A paper plane glides over the cliff and down by the bay
It soars with the eagles reigning up high
It gets crumpled by the wind, ripped by the storm
But holds shape to stay on its way.

A paper plane flies through bright skies and the thick of night
It diverts east to where it hears a night call
It can't stand the weight of darkness
But flies to guide us back to the light.

A paper plane ventures out into sea
It gains speed from the vibrance of life
It dips low enough to make the water ripple gently
But not close enough to submerge deeply.

I hope this paper plane gets to you
Sometimes my words didn’t get through
Sometimes you couldn’t break through
Yet we're family and that's how we'll get through.

What is it like to float from above?
What is it like to fly free?
What is it like to be resting at peace?

You’ll be wherever we go
In the breeze and in the rain
We love and miss you brother
Forever and always.
