Chasing Fire

written on April 24, 2019

Your story captivated me
our smiles keep me prisoner of the past
memories that were never meant to last.

You lifted me up and away from the girl I knew
An escape from hands bound by my reflection.
The world stops in your embrace
Your scent lingers on the sheets enwrapped with secrets

I fall in the wrong direction
because it’s written the right way
in my mind
a fairytale with the wrong characters.

I try to grasp and hold the moment
dearly and gently
But it drips through each crack
Tears I’m left to catch

One blink and it’s dawn
The night only a memory
Your breath kept me awake
For if I fall asleep, the moment is no longer mine

Rewind replay rewind replay
Where did it all go wrong?
Did I bare too much of my soul?
Did I have to burn to learn?

I wish I could trade hearts with you
so I wouldn’t feel the pain I do.
One can care so much and yet
mistranslated words and actions
falls to dust.

I await the day you’re simply
a person
that my heart doesn’t react to
at all.
